Hands mocap with Leap motion

Today's tutorial will be fascinating. I am going to show you how to do hands motion capture using Blender which is free forever. Download  blender and  NI-MATE  software and plugin for blender.

Install blender, ni-mate and leap motion drivers. Open Blender - User Preferences - Install Add on from file - Select Ni-Mate plugin file - Enable the add on in User Preferences tab in blender and Save User Settings.

Connect the leap motion controller to your system. Resume tracking of leap motion in hidden icons of task bar. Open Ni-Mate  -  Go to Setup and check status whether the controller is connected and running and then go to Leap motion tab for live feed of motions. And you can select two output windows in various selections like 3D, ghost mode, left camera, right camera.

Go to skeleton tracking in leap motion tab and enable OSC Skeleton for OSC feed to send data. You can change format of skeleton from basic to basic + orientation or animata, orientation, OSCeleton. You can check the hand hierarchy names in detail.

Open blender and press 'T' for tool shelf. Select Ni-Mate in tool shelf tabs. Select rotations if you want. Select empties or squares or spheres or cubes except nothing because if it selects nothing will appear on screen and select start the magic happens on 3D view. you can see what leap motion detects either left or right hand or both of them. You can retarget to 3D model or rigged model via naming schemes detailed in Outliner window.

Here's a catch your hands should be in leap motion controller tracking range.
